About the Assembly
Glasgow & Edinburgh
These groups met to dance mainly those dances loosely termed ‘Playford’ – ie. English country dances from 1650-1830, with a few recently composed dances in the same idiom. The friendly and informal atmosphere allowed for the main emphasis on enjoyment of dancing and dances with gentle instruction in style provided for those interested.
Lanark
The Glasgow & Edinburgh Assemblies are no longer running. However, keen dancers, new and old, now meet monthly at Christ Church in Lanark on Tuesday afternoons still run by Nicolas and danced to the recordings of The Assembly Players.
Workshop Weekend
Each year a visiting Teacher was invited to come (usually in March or April) and run a weekend comprising morning and afternoon Workshops on Saturday and Sunday. An informal dance takes place on the Saturday evening.
The Assembly Ball
A country dance ball was held annually at the end of June or at the beginning of July.
